The amplifier certainly has a rich history here at Cary Audio Design. In fact, the amplifier was what originally got this company started and was the first product we ever produced. So, needless to say, we take the amplifier pretty seriously. Roughly around 1994, this whole “home theater” thing really took off. We were watching as all these large overseas companies began cranking out 5 channel amplifiers all over the world. We saw the popularity of home theater explode, but we also saw a lack of true satisfaction with what was currently available.
Well, we knew we built a darn good amplifier but we currently only built them with 2 channels for stereo applications. Well, what was to stop Cary Audio Design from simply taking those two channels and making them into five? Um, well, nothing! So, we got to work trying to build the best darn 5 channel home theater amplifier we could build. Dennis sequestered himself in his lab for a few weeks only coming out to groan a little bit, go to the bathroom every once in a while and to get in his car to go home. You see, this is the standard design process here at Cary when the mad scientist is at work on something new. Who are we to buck the system? Well, we did begin to finally start worrying around week 3 when the door to the lab was still closed all day without us hearing any sound coming out. I then decided I would walk over and knock to see if there was anything I could do to help. Well, just as I raised my hand to tap on the door, I heard a large ruckus coming from inside the room and the door instantly swung open with a wild-eyed Dennis standing there. The only thing he could muster up was, “I’ve done it”. Yeah, he certainly did it alright. When I glanced around the corner to see his creation, I mistakenly first thought that he had parked his daughter’s VW Bug on his desk. Only after doing a second take did I fully realize the scope of what was in front of me; the almighty CAD 500 T.

With 250 watts per channel and tipping the scales at a modest 160lbs, this behemoth sat atop Dennis’ wooden lab table daring anyone to come near. To this day, I still hear wood creaking and cracking under the weight of this mighty beast. When Dennis finally turned this power plant on, I swear the lights in the neighborhood dimmed for a minute. With the prowess of a nuclear reactor, the CAD 500 T powered up and sat there silently. Dare we hook this monster to our home theater system? Yeah, we dare. Off to the theater test room we went with, ahem, three of us carrying the “T” to its post. At this time we were also testing the prototype of our first home theater processor, the wonderful P7, so this was to be the brains behind the brawn. We all assumed our positions on the couch and around the room as I stepped to the front to power everything up. With a few quick clicks our home theater room roared to life in a way it had never done before. Gone were the days of muddled dialogue and underwhelming effects and explosions. The walls rattled in a way that you could only imagine as the 500 T effortlessly powered its way through the most demanding musical and movie passages. This was it. This was the moment we had all been waiting for and he HAD done it, and done it pretty darn well I might add. Thus began the history of the multi-channel amplifier at Cary Audio Design.
The old adage about the “weakest link in the chain” is certainly a tired one but boy; it couldn’t be truer when it comes to audio and video. You could buy a brand new Ferrari Enzo with its beastly 651hp, V12 engine, but if you put a set of bicycle tires on that bad boy, you’re not going anywhere. The same holds true with your multi-channel amplifier. You could have the best speakers, blu ray player and processor available, but if you’re powering the system with some tin can with yarn coming out connecting to your speakers, you aren’t going to hear much. You simply will not get the best out of your system without the proper amplification in place. It takes a team of components to create that perfect home theater system and yours will only be as good as the ole’ “weakest link”. This is where the Cary Audio Design Model 7.125 steps in.
We’ve taken our years of stereo and multi-channel amplifier technology and boiled it down to the best of the best. This is what we now offer today in our wonderful line of home theater amplifiers. The Model 7.125 is the culmination of years of perfecting our amplifier designs. With 125 watts per channel into 8 Ohms and 190 watts per channel into 4 Ohms, there aren’t any speakers out there that the Model 7.125 can’t handle without a care. The streamlined design and purest-minded audio signal flow allow the Model 7.125 to recreate your favorite music and movies with the greatest of ease all the while providing you an unrivaled home theater experience. Quality starts from the top and works its way down. Each piece in the signal chain is as important as the next. With the Cary Audio Design Model 7.125 in your system, we certainly know which component won’t be the weakest link. However, it might just show you which ones are!
